This print showcases an array of symbols that represent Palestine and the Palestinian people:

  1. The "48" represents the year 1948 or the year of the Nakba. Nakba means "catastrophe" in Arabic and is the year Palestinians were mass displaced from their land. (Top left and right corners).
  2. The Palestinian Flag (Top right).
  3. The shape of the country of Palestine (Middle). Take a look at the world map, do you see Palestine listed where it should be?
  4. The crescent moon and star representing Islam which is the Religion of the Palestinian Muslims (Middle right).
  5. The Olive branch representing the key component of the Palestinian economy for years which allowed for olive oil production. However, since 1967, more than 800,000 Palestinian olive trees have been illegally uprooted by the Israeli authority and now, in this current genocide, Israeli forces are burning down some of the remainder of Olive trees (Bottom left).
  6. The fishnet representing the keffiyeh’s fishnet that represents the Palestinian sailors and their relationship to the Mediterranean sea (Bottom middle).
  7. The dove holding a key representing peace, freedom and future as well as the keys that many Palestinian people still hold to their homes that were stolen from them by Israeli settlers (Bottom middle corner box).
  8. “From the river to the sea” representing the area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea that was stolen from the Palestinians. The phrase is cry for freedom and the return of Palestinian land (Bottom middle right).
  9. The watermelon representing a symbol for Palestinian solidarity. When apartheid Israel took control over Gaza and the West bank, the Israeli government banned Palestinian flags from being displayed in these territories. To protest this ban, Palestinians used watermelons, as the inside has all four colors of the flag represented, as a symbol for their identity and resistance. (Bottom right).
