This print represents a watermelon created in support of Palestine and the Palestinian people.
Why a watermelon? Watermelons serve as a symbol for Palestinian solidarity. When apartheid Israel took control over Gaza and the West bank, the Israeli government banned Palestinian flags from being displayed in these territories. To protest this ban, Palestinians used watermelons, as the inside has all four colors of the flag represented, as a symbol for their identity and resistance.
The "48" on the bottom left corner represents the year 1948 or the year of the Nakba. Nakba means "catastrophe" in Arabic and is the year Palestinians were mass displaced from their land by Israelis.
